There’s no shortage of beauty and cosmetics brands out there claiming to be sustainable and ecologically friendly. Many of them may participate in what is commonly known as “greenwashing” though, where the products they make actually have a sizeable and generally negative impact on the environment, while claiming to be ecologically friendly. At Ecosystembeauty.com, we do our best to find brands and products that take sustainability, quality ingredients and loving the earth seriously.
1. Modern Skyn Alchemy
Modern Skyn Alchemy is a California based company that takes sustainable beauty products seriously. They prioritize ingredients that are organic, safe and plant based. They also make an effort to ensure all of their ingredients are ethically sourced. Here’s what Modern Skyn has to say about their products.

2. Butter Me Up Organics
Butter Me Up! We couldn’t of thought of a better name ourselves, and it’s no secret this brand does its best to make you feel special. Made with love in small batches, Butter Me Up goes out of their way to take extraordinary care of their customers. Making everything from toothpaste to shampoo to some of the best soaps we’ve ever smelled, who wouldn’t want to treat themselves to the botanical bounty that their products provide.
The company started in 2008, with an emphasis on products that are cruelty free and sustainable. The fact that all of their products are made in small batches translates to knowledge that each item is made with the attention and care it deserves. When you wash your body with Butter Me Up soaps or use their body oil, made with Almond, Argan and Jojoba, you know you’re taking care of your skin the right way.

3. Russell Organics
Russell Organics puts science at the forefront of their product offerings. Established in 2009, Russell Organics mission is to formulate high quality products without the common toxins that can be found in so many cosmetics on the market. Prioritizing the needs and wants of the customer, Russell Organics goes above and beyond in their efforts to create toners, serums, shampoos and even teas that stimulate and delight the senses, all while keeping harmful chemicals away from our bodies.
The company is cruelty free, and does not offer any products tested on animals. Also, many of the ingredients used in their products are certified organic.

4. Calithea
Calithea was started by Elena Kazas. Inspired by her Grandmother’s skin routine, which involved applying olive oil and sunscreen daily, Elena decided to carry on her Grandmother’s legacy. Elena goes on to say “She also felt strongly that all women old and young should appreciate what they have, and to focus on and nurture their inner beauty and not to feel jealous of others.”
Taking inspiration from her roots, her products are inspired by her Grecian heritage. Some of the key ingredients in Calithea’s products have are storied with the history of beauty and love. Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Aloe Vera, Prickly Pear, Pomegranate, Honey, and Donkey Milk all play apart in the formulation of many Calithea products.

Koa is a skin and facial care brand from Hawaii. Their dedication to protecting and nurturing the skin is obvious from the get go. We especially love their sunscreen and facial cleanser!
